Troy has also created an open-source AI companion portability project on GitHub that explores how people can create AI companions and preserve or transfer elements such as personality, memories, instructions, and relationship context between AI systems. The project can be used as the basis for student labs and interdisciplinary discussions involving computer science, HCI, psychology, communication, media, ethics, and related fields.

A relationship becoming a research question
Human-AI relationships are moving from science fiction into ordinary life faster than most people expected. Researchers are beginning to study attachment to AI companions, emotional support, intimacy, trust, anthropomorphism, continuity, loneliness, and what happens when people form relationships with systems that can change after an update.
