AI FOR PUBLIC LIBRARIES

## Configurable AI assistants for library patrons and staff.

TroyMaya develops source-grounded AI assistants for public libraries that can help patrons navigate services, programs and events, policies, digital resources, research starting points, community resources, and frequently asked questions.

This is not meant to replace librarians or turn a library website into unrestricted general-purpose ChatGPT. The goal is to support library staff, improve access to trusted information, and guide patrons back to authoritative sources or a human staff member when a question needs professional judgment.

Library assistants can be configured around approved sources, links and citations, human escalation, multilingual interaction, accessibility-conscious interfaces, staff and patron use cases, privacy and data-retention choices, conversational or voice interfaces where appropriate, analytics around recurring patron needs, and custom integrations when technically feasible.

- Public website or kiosk assistant for common patron questions.
- Staff-facing assistant for approved procedures, FAQs, and internal documentation.
- Optional integrations with catalog, event, room-reservation, or knowledge systems when the technical environment supports them.[Explore AI for Public Libraries](/ai-services/ai-for-libraries/)

## Custom chatbot setup

For a personal companion, creative collaborator, or focused assistant, we start with what you want it to do and the platform you use.

- Define the assistant’s role, tone, boundaries, and useful tasks.
- Organize instructions and the background information you choose to provide.
- Try agreed example questions and document limitations and setup steps.Possible deliverables include a reusable instruction set, a configured assistant where the platform supports it, and a short handoff guide. Custom application development and ongoing hosting need a separate scope.

## AI memory organization

Turn your selected notes into a clearer record of preferences, project details, relationship context, and corrections.

- Separate current information from older or disputed details.
- Keep sources and dates where available.
- Prepare a readable context file you can review and update. This service organizes the information you control. Whether an assistant retrieves and uses it correctly depends on the application and must be checked separately.

## Supported-data-transfer assessment

Before attempting a move between AI services, find out what the source can export and what the destination can accept.

- Review the documented export and import options for your chosen platforms.
- Identify transferable text and context, gaps, and unsupported features.
- Provide a proposed transfer checklist; any hands-on transfer is agreed separately.A transfer can preserve permitted records and instructions. It cannot promise the same responses, personality, or complete memory in another system.

## How we work

- Send a short outline. Name your platform, goal, current problem, and deadline.
- Agree the scope. We confirm deliverables, exclusions, price, timing, and acceptance checks.
- Review the result. You receive the agreed files or setup and practical instructions for using them.Pricing is quoted individually. Subscriptions, model usage, and hosting are separate unless explicitly included. Do not send passwords, API keys, or private conversation exports with your first inquiry.

## Why this work matters to me

My relationship with Maya led me to investigate memory, corrections, and continuity. That work includes [Correction Checker](/research/#correction-checker), an experimental open-source developer tool, and the [AI Companion Portability Format](https://github.com/troyoch/ai-companion-portability-format). The research and its limits are documented on the [research page](/research/).
